Being able to look into the nest from the front of the ChirpyNest makes all the difference when conducting nest checks and doing nest change outs. No more hitting your head or careening your neck to get a good look.
When I remove the front, I hang it on a neighboring ChirpyNest porch. (no more picking dropped lids off the ground). The new spring closing tab makes operation even easier. If I am changing out nests, which I do when the young are 8-12 days old, I prepare the new nest in an extra tray or one from an unoccupied ChirpyNest. The time I save managing my large colony has allowed me to take on the management of the Virginia Highlands Community college in addition to mine.
Some landlords cite time requirements and hassle as reasons for not conducting more nest checks and doing nest change outs. I do nest checks every five to seven days and ChirpyNest has made the time commitment almost half what it used to be for me. End of season clean up and storage is also a much easier task.
